In Memoriam: Our Firm's Founder Dr. iur. Hans-Kaspar Stiffler (1932–2026) - 3. September 2026
Hans-Kaspar Stiffler, originally from Davos, completed his studies at the University of Zurich, earning his doctorate in 1958 and being admitted to the bar in 1960. In 1975, he co-founded what is today known as Stiffler & Partner.
He soon established himself as a specialist in sports law and liability law. His standard reference work on ski law was published in its third, fully revised edition in 2002 under the title "Schweizerisches Schneesportrecht" ("Swiss Snow Sports Law"). The work addressed, in particular, questions of duty of care and liability concerning skiers and snowboarders, mountain transport facilities, operators of snow sports facilities, as well as ski instructors, mountain guides, and tour leaders.
After many years as an active partner of the firm, he remained associated with the firm as counsel for many years following his retirement. In this capacity, too, Hans-Kaspar took an active interest in the day-to-day life of the office and remained warmly connected to the firm's community.
Hans-Kaspar Stiffler passed away on August 29, 2026, in his 94th year of life.
